She’s self-taught with inspiration from her grandmother, mother and sister. She began sewing in her 7th grade Home Economics Class. She has attended FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City, for Patternmaking, Art (sketching designs), Draping and Tailoring. She has worked as a free lance sample maker for a well-known menswear designer (Andrew Fezza) in New York City.
She has provided sewing classes at local fabric and sewing retail shops. She was the Neighborhood Group Leader for the Plantation group of The American Sewing Guild from 1993 – 1998. As a neighborhood group leader she gave sewing instructions and sewing demonstrations. She’s taken numerous classes at Sewing Expositions and Conferences from 1993 to the present. She was the former president of The American Sewing Guild’s Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Chapter that had over 330 members. The American Sewing Guild, Inc. is a non-profit national organization with 136 chapters and over 20,220 sewing lovers nationwide.
She manages her own home-based custom sewing business called Fashions by Elouise. With 37+ years of sewing experience, she specializes in alterations and fitting full-figured clients. DBA/Fashions by Elouise commits to excellence by providing professionally sewn garments. Her prospects are acquired through word of mouth and through satisfied clients. Her talent is passed on through teaching teens and adults with her love of sewing. She served as the American Sewing Guild’s Neighborhood Group Leader at Keiser University’s Fashion Design & Merchandising Department. She offered sewing instruction projects and provided other topics by presenters from the community.
She’s skilled in making bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, suits, blouses, tops, pants, tailored shirts and more. She tackles custom clothing and specializes in alterations for men and women. Do you have a favorite garment that’s worn out? It can be duplicated without taking it apart. She can sketch and design a pattern from your description and make the completed product. Lining a ready-to-wear item wouldn’t be a problem either. Sewing has brought her many years of joy and satisfaction.
